COURTNEY BAILEY
USGTF & CGTF Level
III Member, Brampton, Ontario, Canada
|
My name is Courtney Bailey. I am the former athletic director
and physical education teacher at the International School of
Phnom Penh. For the past 17 years I have taught in six different
countries.
My teaching
experience began in Toronto, Canada. Since then I have taught in
the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, United Arab
Emirates, Tanzania, Cambodia, and now I am on my way to Beijing,
China.
I grew up playing
all sports, from basketball to cricket, but golf was never an
interest. While attending college at the University of Manitoba,
I played basketball and led the team to back-to-back national
championships. Since I could no longer play basketball at the
level I was accustomed to, I needed a new competitive challenge.
I started playing golf ten years ago while living in Cote
D’Ivoire, and have managed to teach myself the game to the point
where others would ask me for lessons. As a physical education
teacher, I find it easy to teach sports in general. I have
coached golf in Cambodia for the past three years and enjoy
seeing the satisfaction students get from being able to apply
the mechanics into hitting the golf ball straight.
When I applied for
my current position, one of the things that they insisted I do
is develop a junior golf program within the International School
in Beijing. My goal is to develop a program that will enable
students to be competitive in tournaments throughout Southeast
Asia. I hope to spread the enjoyment and fundamentals of golf to
these students, so they are able to play this beautiful game to
the best of their ability.
