I believe God puts
us here to make a difference. If you find your calling and
follow it with all your heart, you’ll never have to work another
day in your life. I truly feel that way about teaching golf.
From the first time I picked up a golf club at age 14, I knew my
life would revolve around this game. Looking back, after now
being in the game for 33 years and teaching professionally on a
full-time basis for nearly 18 years, it has been as interesting
journey.
Although I have
taken very few golf lessons in my life, I was fortunate to
receive my first instruction from Mr. Chuck Cook, then pro at
Evansville Country Club. He is now famous for his work with tour
pros such as Payne Stewart and Tom Kite. I was impressed by his
professionalism and willingness to help a young golfer. (He did
this for free and is something I have never forgotten. I love to
pay this favor forward). I got the chance to visit with him
after my Level III course and to thank him for helping me find
my way.
Recently, after
completing the Level IV Masters certification course, I got the
chance to speak with Mr. Bob Toski, another of my personal
heroes. I have great respect for those who have made teaching
the game their life’s work.
From April to
October, I teach golf lessons from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday
through Saturday. I see teaching golf as a ministry that
involves all aspects of life.
Recently, I have
completed a self-publishing project in the form of a book called
The Driven Golfer: Building Your Method for Scratch Golf.
It is the product of years of note-taking from the lesson tee. I
am currently finishing a DVD to go along with the book. I hope
to bring them to golfers of all levels through my website,
www.thedrivengolfer.com.
